Q:How do I order spectacles from lovespecs.com?
Before you order your prescription spectacles (glasses) with lovespecs.com, you must ensure that your prescription is less than 2 years old. If it is over 2 years old we advise that you go to your Optician to have an up to date eye test and obtain a new prescription. By law (UK Opticians Act 1989), your Optician must provide you with a legible copy of your prescription immediately after an eye test. Remember, just because you had your eyes tested at your local Opticians does not mean that you have to buy your spectacles from them!
Q: How can I be sure I have entered my prescription correctly?
We have a team of qualified Opticians who check every single one of our customer orders. If they come across anything which they think is incorrect, they will get in touch with you by email or phone and may ask you to re-confirm some of your prescription details.
Q: Can I send you my prescription for you to input it instead?
If you are unsure you can email or fax us a copy of your prescription and we’ll input it for you.
Q: How long will my glasses take to arrive?
We would normally expect you to receive your glasses within 10 to 14 days from placing your order however, it can be quicker. The length of time is dependent on the complexities of your prescription together with the time taken for lens coatings or tints.
Q: How much does delivery cost and how will my glasses be delivered?
We charge £3.75 for delivery. Your glasses will be delivered to your chosen address by Royal Mail.
Q: I do not like my glasses and would like to return them – can I do this?
We offer a 14 day (28 day for varifocals) no quibble money-back guarantee where we will replace your glasses or will refund you.
Q: When does the 14-day period start?
The date we post your glasses out is the date on which the 14-day money-back period starts.
Q: Do you refund delivery charges?
No, sorry we don’t.
Q: How do you manage to charge such low prices?
Because we lovespecs! We don’t have any expensive overheads such as rents and rates for expensive high street stores and we don’t have to pay for expensive eye testing equipement. So ultimately we don’t need to pass on the cost to you, and therefore save you £’s..
Q: Do you sell designer glasses?
We sell designer frames from some of the worlds leading ‘superbrands’ such as both EMPORIO and GIORGIO ARMANI, HUGO BOSS, CRISTIAN DIOR, GUCCI, PRADA and MIU MIU, at much lower prices than you’d pay on the high street from optical stores like Optical Express and Vision Express.
Q: My spectacles need adjustment after I receive them?
Most optical stores will adjustment your spectacles for you.
Q: Will my frame and lenses be of the highest optical quality?
All our frames and lenses conform to CE standards. This is the standard to produce and manufacture medical equipment. We buy our frames from the SAME manufacturers who supply to Optical stores up and down the country. Our lenses are manufactured by the SAME laboratories who supply to the majority of the UK’s Optical Stores.
Q: What are my lens options?
Standard optical plastic lenses are known as CR39 (made from Columbian resin on the 39th attempt) these have a refractive index of 1.49. Polycarbonate lenses have a refractive index of 1.59 and are about 15% thinner than CR39 and approximately 12x stronger than CR39. We also offer thin and light lenses which have a refractive index of 1.6 and are approximately 15% thinner than CR39. Ultra thin lenses have a refractive index of 1.67 and are 1/3 thinner than CR39. The thinnest possible have a refractive index of 1.74 and can reduce thickness by as much as 40%. Basically, the higher the refractive index, the thinner, lighter and stronger your lenses. We therefore only use thin lenses in our rimless frames. We don’t sell glass lenses as plastic is a safer option.
Q: Can I have my lenses tinted?
You can select a fixed or graduate tint from a variety of colours when you order your spectacles. We recommend adding UV400 coating to these - it blocks potentially harmful ultraviolet rays. Photochromic sunlight reactive lenses are clear in artificial light (indoors) and automatically tint almost as dark as sunglasses in strong sunlight.
Q: Do you sell lens coatings?
As plastic lenses have a soft surface, they are prone to scratching. We strongly recommend that you add the scratch resistant coating. Anti-reflective coating allows more light to pass through the lens, and therefore reduce glare and reflections and are cosmetically more appealing. This is ideal for most people, in particular if you drive or use a computer screen. UV400 protective coating prevents the harmful UV rays from entering your eyes. Ultra Violet rays are a known factor in increasing your chances of developing sight threatening problems such as Cataract or Macular Degeneration. This is ideal if you spend a lot of time outdoors.
Q: Do you sell bifocal lenses?
We suggest you order bifocals only if your Optician has recommended them. They cost an additional £30.
Q: What type of bifocals do you sell?
We use D28 bifocal lenses. These are 28mm wide D-shaped segments positioned vertically 3mm below the centre of the lens, and horizontally centred on your pupillary distance. If you'd like them set further up or down, please inform us when ordering.
Q: Do you sell varifocals?
We suggest your order varifocals only if your Optician has recommended them. They cost an additional £60.
Q: What type of varifocals do you sell?
We use the latest ‘freeform’ or ‘back surface’ design varifocals. They are horizontally centred on your pupillary distance with vertical heights at an ideal position for your chosen frame. Your prescription varifocals will come with marks which should sit in front of your pupils when fitted correctly. The spectacles can be adjusted at most optical stores.
Q: What is pupillary distance (PD), mine is not written on my prescription?
It's the distance between your pupil centres.
For your prescription spectacles to do the job well the optical centre of the lenses needs to be made to match the distance between your eyes, so that the centre of each lens is aligned with the centre of your pupil. To achieve this, we need your pupillary distance (PD) measurement. Unfortunately, not all opticians state this measurement on the prescription, however, you can request it. Alternatively, you can order your prescription spectacles using our default PD of 63mm for distance. Near PD is usually 4mm less than this, so default is at 59mm. Intermediate PD is in between the two, and so default is set at 61mm. Using our default average, PD does not harm your eyes but it can cause eye strain.
Q: What is the strongest pair of spectacles you can make?
The maximum prescription we can sell is: ±8.00 SPH (sphere) and ±4.00 CYL (cylinder).
Q: What size of frame would suit me?

You will usually find three measurements on the inside of one of the sides (arms) of the frame, or on the nose bridge. The first two measurements (lens diameter and nose bridge size) are separated by a square or rectangle. See the diagram below. You can find your ideal size frame by going to ‘sizes to suit’.
Q: Do you accept NHS Vouchers?
Unfortunately, we do not accept NHS vouchers as a form of payment. We do however, accept most credit / debit cards and you can pay through PayPal.
Q: Is the payment page secure?
We accept all major Credit and Debit Cards through our secure SSL-enabled web server which is enhanced with 128-bit encryption. SSL is the leading security protocol on the internet. 128-bit encryption is the strongest encryption on the internet. These factors transactions on this website are secure.
